AA Cougars win football championship The Kettering Cougars 75 pound AA football team clinched the county National League title for the second year in a row on Saturday with a 21 0 victory against the Lanham Raiders. KLM went deep into Lanham territory in the second quarter on a 45 yard run by Jeroel Hicks. But the Cougars (7 0 1) lost a fumble on the next play. Antonio Royster, Jerod Johnson, Ramel Stephens, Tevin Thompson and Armani Lanier helped lead a defensive effort that stopped Lanham (6 1) from moving the ball out of its end of the field. And KLM capitalized on the ensuing possession, getting a 25 yard touchdown run from quarterback Julian Hamilton. Hamilton connected with tight end Armani Lanier on a 52 yard touchdown pass later in the second quarter, and the pair hooked up again for the extra point as KLM took a 14 0 halftime lead. Cornerback Blake Brown had a second half interception that set up the Cougars offense for its final score. Fullback Shamik Perry carried 40 yards for a touchdown behind the blocking of Brandon Bradley and Victor Bosier. Hamilton added the extra point, Brown picked off another pass and defensive tackle Tevin Thompson had a fumble recovery to help seal the win. The Cougars will face South Bowie in the county playoffs this weekend. The Lanham Raiders 75 pound AAA football team finished regular season play undefeated with a 26 0 victory against Kettering Largo on Saturday. Stanley Henry, Marcquise Reed and Wayne Cummings helped move the ball downfield on Lanham first drive before Reed scored on a 15 yard run. On the ensuing kickoff, Carlos Williams caused a KLM fumble, which the Raiders recovered. Khalil Wiggins picked up a key first down before Cummings scored on a 5 yard run. Wiggins added the extra point and had a quarterback sack just before halftime. Chiedum Obima and DeAundre Perry also had key tackles. Ramberg had a fumble recovery in the second half before Tre Henderson scored on a quarterback sneak. Michael Giles had a touchdown saving tackle on the ensuing kickoff and Ramberg added a sack during KLM next drive. Temoney caught a 25 yard touchdown pass to close the scoring. Henry led the Raiders defense with six tackles, with four each by Reed, Ramberg and Cummings. Hafez Sesay, Tavlon Taliaferro, Jalen Tabor, Azim Williams, Jordan Walker, DeJuan Smith and Maurice Brewer also contributed to the shutout. Lanham (8 0) will face Silver Hill this weekend in the county playoffs. The Kettering Cougars 65 pound AAA Gold football team (8 0) won via forfeit Saturday against Kentland to register consecutive undefeated regular seasons. The top seeded Cougars will play Silver Hill in a county playoff game Sunday at Prince George Sports Park. The Kettering Cougars 95 pound AAA football team captured the county Northern Division title on Saturday with an 18 7 victory against the Glenarden Bulldogs. KLM (8 0) was led by Brandon Savoid, who had 10 carries for 191 yards and three touchdowns. The Cougars head to the county playoffs, where they will face the Marlboro Mustangs on Saturday at the Sports and Learning Complex in Landover. KLM averaged 26 points per game and allowed its opponents just 3.3 per contest.
